Safe Communities Act legislative hearing

Massachusetts State House 24 Beacon St, Boston, United States

"We have a new date for our biggest mobilization yet! On Friday, Jan. 24, the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security will hold a day-long hearing on the Safe Communities Act, in the largest room in the State House, Gardner Auditorium.

Be there if you can; we need a massive show of support, with advocates from all across the state. We expect groups to come on buses from Western Mass., New Bedford, the Merrimack Valley and more. Our goal is to keep Gardner packed all day, working in shifts. We're also doing a press event at 10 a.m., before we get started, and we'll have constituents calling and visiting legislators as well.

It's past time Massachusetts stand up and say loud and clear: immigrants are welcome here! Not one dollar of our state and local resources should be used to tear families apart.

What will your role be on this big day? Please use the RSVP link to help us plan and organize -- and if you can't come, consider supporting our mobilization by calling your legislators, spreading the word, and contributing to our mobilization fund: http://bit.ly/SCA-fund."

Mattapan Branch of the Boston Public Library 1350 Blue Hill Ave, Mattapan, MA

"Since its founding, Boston has had a strong focus on public education, but not everyone had access to the same education. A young girl of color, named Sarah Roberts, forced Bostonians to acknowledge this inequality when she and her father sued the City of Boston because of the evident inequity in the Public Education System.

Join us as a National Parks Service Park Ranger facilitates a dialogue discussing this court case on Boston Public Schools. No registration."
